The European Central Bank kept interest rates on hold at a record low of 1.0 percent

 for the 17th month running on Thursday, as expected.

All 79 economists in a Reuters poll had predicted the ECB would keep rates unchanged against a backdrop of ongoing economic uncertainty and nagging doubts about the fiscal health of highly indebted euro zone countries.
